Anne Marie Prewitt, Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, Supervised by Lori Martin, LPC-S

I love the line from the song entitled Be A Light by Thomas Rhett that says, “the finish line is six feet in the ground”. The lyric reflects a truth that - if we have life in our bodies, we have a purpose that is yet to be fulfilled. I believe everyone has a divine task left to do in this world – no matter what stage of life we are in. We are not finished until we are “six feet in the ground”. If we have breath, hope can be found.

After over thirty years in the corporate world, I came to realize that my life was not winding down, but rather just beginning. A deep passion for coming along side others in a more structured manner began to awaken inside of me. So, I returned to school to become a therapist. Although my previous career was fulfilling, I believe I have found what I was born to do.

Life has both victories and defeats. And sometimes the defeats can seem very dark. I consider it an honor to come alongside another in their most vulnerable moments as they navigate their personal darkness. I also take great delight in celebrating the victories. Yet, while the black of the darkness is daunting and light of victory is exhilarating, the bulk of life is in the tasks of everyday living. As a counselor, I explore the opposite poles of victory and defeat, but I also strive to help my clients find peace in everyday living.

Sometimes it is necessary to look back to look forward. Your past experiences and relationships can be the key that unlocks why you think and act a certain way. But the past is not the destination. And your past does not define you. The past is simply a reference in your journey toward healing.

I believe deeply in the human condition’s need for relationship. As a result, I consider counseling to be a partnership. If you are on the fence about seeking help, know that I believe in coming alongside as a fellow sojourner in life. My task is not to give you advice, but rather to empower you to discover the hidden strength within yourself. You have purpose and together we will work to find peace and healing in your personal journey.

I was born and raised in Dallas County and lived most of my adult life in Collin County. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Radio/Television/Film from Baylor University and my master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. I spent the first 16 years of my professional career in television production and the last 17 years in database development. Additionally, I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas. I moved to Denton in November of 2018 to be near my three grandchildren. I have two adult daughters and one adult son as well as a pup named Daisy May.
