Christy Daniel - Licensed Master Social Worker

Changing is not as simple as changing our behavior. If it were, we would all decide to just be happy, and be happy!. Instead, many of us come to places in our life where we feel stuck and can’t see what needs to change, we just know SOMETHING has to! Or we may have had events or circumstances that have occurred in our life which we have tried to move on from but still find we need healing.

Much of my experience is working with individuals who have experienced some form of trauma that continues to impact their present day. This might look like difficulty in relationships, low self esteem or self doubt, substance use, feeling detached from others, needing to be in control, fear of rejection or abandonment, depression, anxiety, symptoms of post traumatic stress, or anger. If you find yourself struggling in one of these areas and don’t feel you have experienced a trauma, that’s ok too.

My Beliefs:
  • Therapy is about your goals. Together we work to discover and discard your ineffective coping mechanisms and patterns of behavior that cause you to feel stuck or to cause what you desire to appear out of reach.
  •  Roots and not branches. In treating symptoms, you may feel better temporarily but typically it does not create lasting results. I believe in addressing the whole person and getting to the root of issues to expose the very things that continue to rob us from the joy, peace, and purpose we were created to have.

  • Change requires community. We all need a place where we feel safe, are able to be open and honest, and not judged so that we can see ourselves honestly. Only by starting from where we are can we move forward.

I have known from a very young age that I wanted to “help” others. More importantly than just help, I knew I wanted to be instrumental in teaching steps or actions so individuals could help themselves become who they were created to be. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Family Studies from Texas Woman’s University and then twelve years later  acquired my Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas A&M University -Commerce. Apparently, I needed to do some living before moving on to my Master’s.  From the very minute I started classes I knew this was exactly where I was supposed to be. Soon after graduating, I worked with at -risk and youth experiencing homelessness in group settings and individually, and got to play a part in creating the first shelter for youth in Lewisville. I have experience in conducting Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavior Therapy through individual, play, group, and family therapy and providing crisis intervention to child victims of sexual abuse and their families. As a private and group therapist I have worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, substance abuse issues (past or current), trauma/PTSD, issues of faith, relationship issues, and adjustment disorder.  For those that desire it, I do use a holistic biblical approach where we incorporate scripture with beliefs about self and life.
