If I could have a superpower, it would be to have the ability to walk indefinitely and be able to climb over anything so I could fully explore God’s world. And that I would be completely repulsive to snakes! The beautiful trees, water, and wildlife of North Texas made me fall in love with Denton. I love flowers, birds, every color of green, and looking at the sky. We have lived here for 7 years, and love our church, the people, and the restaurants.
Sometimes beginning counseling can seem scary, but it’s so worth it. Every counselor at Joyful Restoration Counseling is kind and gentle. The relief that comes from working through depression, anxiety, or trauma is so worth the emotional and financial investment. We also accept insurance realizing that a lot of people work hard for their coverage and need to use insurance.
I taught secondary English for a very long time. I loved the students and the teachers I worked with, but the essay grading and lesson planning were not enjoyable. I wanted to work in a field where I got to know people beyond their grammar usage! God opened the door for me to start my masters’ degree online through Lamar University. With encouragement from friends and family and great sacrifice from my husband, I finished my degree and received my license to practice professional counseling. The hurt that people endure is overwhelming sometimes, but God has been so faithful to use me through therapy to offer comfort and healing. I am so thankful to be a part of it.
I specialize in helping clients overcome trauma, depression, and anxiety. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is an efficient and very effective therapy for trauma, including PTSD. It also works very well for chronic depression and chronic anxiety. It works by helping the client to focus on the traumatic event or situation and then determine the feelings they have about themselves concerning the event or situation. The counselor leads the client to reprocess the event with the goal being to eliminate the strong negative physical and emotional responses. The memory becomes something that doesn’t affect the person negatively anymore.
My passion is counseling from a biblical perspective. God is the ultimate Healer, knowing us each individually and loving us unconditionally. The Bible provides wisdom and knowledge that apply to every situation. I love watching the Holy Spirit work in my clients’ hearts and minds.
Working with people gives me joy, and so does hanging out with my husband, sons and daughter in law. I love flowers, birds, quilting, extended family gatherings and good Mexican food.
