Mary’s acceptance of each individual as they are and where they are in their own journey attests to her receptiveness to diversity. Her high ethical standards as an educator naturally compliment the counselor and client relationship. Twice recognized as Teacher of the Year and as Department of the Year under her leadership, Mary promotes growth and accomplishment in those with whom she works, and continues mastery of content and technique for herself. During her field experience, Mary will continue education, practice, and pursue credentialing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Narrative Therapy, grief therapy, trauma, play therapy, and EMDR for trauma and PTSD.
“Each individual is blessed with gifts and talents designed to help others. We are instructed to “... not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16. I believe I have fulfilled my calling to teach, mentor, and support others as an educator; however, after my own experience in counseling and prayerful consideration, I know that those experiences in education were preparation for this new calling as a counselor.
My understanding of the challenges facing children, adolescents, and young adults provides an exceptional opportunity to assist them in confronting those challenges, addressing behaviors, and finding healing and peace. I also know the pain and suffering that accompanies grief and the life changing effects of trauma. I testify that one can not only survive, but thrive after such life events. It is my honor and privilege to walk with you through the storms and trials of life into the promise of a new day.” ~ Mary Koleber
