Mary Koleber, Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, Supervised by Billie Baker LPC-S
I knew in fourth grade that I had been called to teach, and it was my passion for 27
years. I enjoyed years of working with students from kindergarten through graduation,
teaching great works of literature and writing techniques, sponsoring student service
groups, and facilitating a student led peer mentoring group. As an educator, I worked to
create an environment that fostered trusting relationships, and students often sought me
out for counsel with family, peers, and personal issues. I strove to offer a listening ear,
patience, compassion, acceptance, and support for both students and peers. As
education, educational leadership, and societal practices shifted, I realized that my time
as an educator was ending and change was necessary.
Supported by my own counseling journey, I accepted a new calling, to minister to the
mental and emotional needs of others. There is an undeniable spiritual component to
counseling, and partnering with the Holy Spirit provides insight and understanding into
each client’s individual needs. As a counselor, I strive to accept each individual as they
are and where they are in their journey and to maintain the same high ethical standards
I held as an educator to my counselor and client relationships.
I believe each individual is blessed with gifts and talents designed to help others. We
are instructed to “...not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such
sacrifices God is pleased” Hebrews 13:16. I know that I have fulfilled my calling to
instruct, mentor, and support others as an educator; I also know, after much prayerful
consideration, that those experiences prepared me for this new season as a counselor.
My understanding of the challenges we all face provides an exceptional opportunity to
assist others in confronting the challenges of life that may include hopelessness,
depression, anxiety, unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and finding hope, healing, and
peace. I also know the pain and suffering that accompanies grief, and the life changing
effects of trauma. I testify that one can not only survive but thrive after such difficult life
events. It is my honor and privilege to walk with you through the storms and trials of life
into the promise of a new day.
I am privileged to partner with Joyful Restoration Wellness and the outstanding
professionals here. I take an eclectic theoretical approach to counseling drawing from
my training in and applying interventions from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
(REBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems
(IFS), and certification in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to meet each client’s
individual needs.
